For 2004/05, the one-day Continuing
Professional Development courses, called 'Framing the
Curriculum', run by National Gallery Education will
focus on 'The Marquise de Seignelay and Two of her Sons'
by Pierre Mignard. The course will look at ways of using
paintings in the classroom by integrating art in to
the National Curriculum. This principle aligns closely
with the DfES Primary Strategy: Excellence and Enjoyment,
which supports a holistic approach to the curriculum
by exploiting the links between subject areas.
'The Marquise de Seignelay and Two of her Sons' was
chosen as it is rich with references to classical stories,
as well as being a portrait of a French family. Both
of these subjects work well with primary-aged students
and also link to the National Literacy Strategy and
the DfES new framework for Modern Foreign languages.
