These woven umbrellas represent the
colours of the rainbow. The project started as a simple
idea inspired by the complementary colours in the painting,
but gradually evolved into a more ambitious project.
Inspired by our artist-in-residence and with the support
of enthusiastic parents, the children tore scrap-store
fabrics into strips and learned to weave them on triangular
looms. They then stitched the pieces together to make
the umbrella shapes. As well as learning weaving techniques
and investigating the colour wheel, cooperation and
communication really came to the fore in this project.
