Character Studies - Nottingham High School
Paintings can use characters to represent different points of view. How we choose to represent characters can make a big difference to the impact of a painting. For instance, characters can be represented as powerful by holding a sword, as beautiful by the expression on their face, or as threatening by breathing fire. The characters in Uccello's painting are central to how he tells the story and the perspective that he gives. Year 5 students from Nottingham High School spent time in Literacy thinking about character. They went on to consider how portraits are used to convey character. They used pastel drawings to represent their version of the key characters from the Saint George and the Dragon story as portraits.
