Rommelpots - Extended School hours

Wentworth CE Junior and Infant School

9 - 11 year olds who attended an after school Art Club, run by a parent, decided to try and make their own rommelpots, as seen in Molenaer's painting.

They researched instructions on the internet and listened to the digital soundfile on the Take One Picture website to hear what noise they needed to replicate.

After filling ceramic pots with water they stretched different materials over the top. They even tried real deer skin! A hole was pierced in the centre of the covering and a piece of wood was inserted. When this stick is moved up and down vibrations are created within the space resulting in a loud noise. The pitch can be changed by adding more water.
