Rubens's house

St Mary's CE VC Primary School

Making this model of the imaginary interior of Rubens's house involved every pupil from St Mary's CE VC Primary School in Bridport.

Each year group took responsibility for a room in the house: Reception children (three- to four-year-olds) designed and made the ballroom; Year 1 (five- to six-year-olds) put together the dining room; Year 4 (eight- to nine-year-olds) made Rubens's bedroom; and Year 6 (10- to 11-year-olds), his kitchen. Pupils made a pipe-cleaner figure to scale to work out the measurements for the furniture and other objects.

Other work included models of farm animals based on the children's own experiences of visiting an organic farm, landscape paintings, and poems.
