Violins - Learning about sound

Archbishop Wake CE VA Primary School

Year 5 pupils (9-10 year olds) looked at the violin in 'Two Boys and a Girl Making Music' and compared it to a real violin. They discussed the design in terms of how different pitches of sound are made. They looked at proportions such as the length of the handle compared to the body and the positioning of the holes and strings. Pupils then produced mixed-media first-hand observational drawings and mounted these on a stave.
